During Lent, we are asking you to collect coins for helping the very poorest people take their first, essential steps out of poverty by giving them access to clean water & sanitation. Please bring your filled containers to Palm Sunday service on the 28th March.
We, who have water immediately on tap
Whenever and almost wherever we want it
are asked to donate our spare coins to help the
very poorest people in this world to get access to water.
Many of them walk miles to obtain their water
which to most of us would certainly be un palatable
and almost undrinkable.
They carry gallons on their heads or on their backs,
in every kind of container; buckets, basins and tins,
to supply the needs of their household
for drinking, cooking, washing of clothes and bodies.
Day after day after day in heat and dust, they gather it.
Only if you have ever been camping - or had the water turned off
for some reason - perhaps to install some equipment in your home
to provide more contentment for you and yours
do you realise how much water we use without even thinking
where it comes from.
We, who complain when rain spoils our enjoyment of a sunny day,
or keeps us inside when would be outside lazing about & sun bathing
cannot image just how very precious water is to those without it.
In arid regions it is a rare blessing, for growing crops it is
essential, to many people in this world it is life saving.
Please can you spare a coin for
WATER AID?
Every penny counts.
Gift Day, Saturday 14th November 2009
